I thought it was time to explain the “Maude” in this blog. It’s obvious through posts that it’s not my name, so you’re probably wondering, where in the world did she get that idea?
Well, it all stems from the 1971 cult classic, Harold and Maude. It is one of my favourite movies of all time, and the character of Maude, a 79, soon to be 80 year old woman, grabbed my heart and is one of my ultimate inspirations in life. You have to watch the movie to fully understand and appreciate where I’m coming from.
OK, so what’s so special about Maude? Well, she’s a risk-taker, she’s impulsive, she’s full of life, she’s a changemaker, she’s a positive force to be reckon with, she’s believes in living life to its fullest and won’t have it any other way. She’s passionate, she’s a lover and a fighter, she’s introspective and knows herself. She’s simply amazing.
Moving to Manitoba was a risk. It was a semi-impulsive, yet passionate move. It was something new. It was a change. It just seemed like something Maude would do…
So there in lies the reason behind the name. Trying to live up to greater potentials meant living a little bit like Maude – going after life to its fullest.
I will leave you with a quote from the woman of the hour herself:
A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They’re just backing away from life. Reach out. Take a chance. Get hurt even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go! Give me an L. Give me an I. Give me a V. Give me an E. L-I-V-E. LIVE!
